A Brief Description
Robotics is the newly emerging area which is so vast and unexplored that it is lacking required amount of research even though serious researches and developments are going on in various universities all over the world. When we talk about robotics, the first thing that comes into our mind is humanoids. But robotics is not always about humanoids. There are various other kinds of robots also like :
1) Stationary manipulator robots
2) Mobile manipulator robots
3) Snake Robots
4) Bipeds
5) Autonomous Robots
6) Remote controlled robots
and many others
The thing is that, we can classify in whatever way we want to.
There are so many students and professionals, who are interested and willing to work in this interesting and moreover a really challenging field. The initial and the most critical part of this is the designing phase as we have to put up all our ideas in a logical and moreover practical and feasible manner, so that our design need not be changed in a future point because of practical restrictions in prototyping our robot. Basically, every novice in robotics, takes their first step by making a line follower. But even for this, designing is critical. For example, the sensor used for detecting the line must be coupled with the best resistor value to optimize the detection. But this value cannot be specified simply. These kinds of things have to be found by trial and error method and rigorous testing.
Once we start our designing, the important thing that must come into action simultaneously is component selection. For this, you will require to search in the internet, whether such a device or board is available in your country. Then comes whether we can afford such a thing. Probably in most of the cases it comes out that, industrially made or commercially available robotic add-on components are costlier. In such a case i would prefer you to make one on yourselves as it can help you to save valuable money. But some may be there who want to avoid such hassles. Those guys can move on to buying such things. One thing that you must remember is that, if you are seriously considering robotics as your field of research, then you can go on and try making your own components as this may help you in improving your skills. May be, it may help you to add a couple of pages to our CV too.
For every system, right after the designing phase comes the electronic circuit designing part. If you think about how the general robots are, then we will find that it is not just controlled by a lot of switched put up together on a very large control console. Nowadays you will find that most of these systems are automatic or semi autonomous. But have you ever thought about what makes it possible?
Here comes the automation part. Basically, automation is achieved using a micro controller. Using a micro controller makes our work easier as making the micro controller do something is so easy and is not tough as many of you may be thinking. For this only prerequisite is basic programming skill in at least one programing language. Designing and testing of electronic circuits will sharpen your skills in electronics.Once your system is completely ready and tested, then comes the most important and the most ever interesting part of robotics. EMBEDDING.
Robotics is otherwise most commonly known as mechatronics. The name itself figures onto the fact that robotics is a blend of mechanics and electronics. Bringing both of these together is therefore really an interesting part during our prototyping process. This site is designed in such a way that it only emphasis n the electronic systems involved in robotics.
